Hope Ranch is a Santa Barbara community most of us are incredibly fond of. Its lushly landscaped trails and private roads make it one of Santa Barbara’s most desirable areas of Santa Barbara. In 1861, Thomas Hope purchased the land for a total of only $8,000. Mr. Hope felt that the land is the ideal spot for herding his sheep to make uniforms for soldiers fighting in the Civil War. After Hope’s passing in 1876, the land property was bought by the Southern Pacific Railroad for $250,000. After plans to build a luxury resort fell through, the land was bought up again by Harold Chase in 1923. Chase installed roads and bridle trails before proceeding with the development of a residential community. Alma del Pueblo is a unique space filled with 15 boutique stores selling artisanal food and wine in a farmers’ market type of environment. The Pasta Shoppe, Enjoy Cupcakes, Belcampo Meat Co., and Rori’s Artisanal Creamery are a few of the merchants to join the marketplace. The developer, Marge Cafarelli, announced that the project is set to open its doors in September.
